چکیده

PURPOSE: We studied the effects of exposure to mitomycin C and 5-Fluorcuracil to human RPE cultures, in growth inhibition and citoxicity. METHODS: 1) Growth inhibition: RPE cultures (3.000 cells/well) were exposed to different concentrations of mitomycin C and 5-Fluorouracil, and cell viability (MTT test) was evaluated 48h, 72h and 96h after. 2) Citotoxicity: RPE cultures (10.000 cells/well) were exposed to different concentrations of mitomVcin C and 5-Fluorouracil, and cell viability (MT? test) was evaluated 96h after. RESULTS: 1) Growth inhibition: IC,o (!Jcl/ml) o= dose that produced 50% RPE growth inhibition was at 48 h 0.86; and at 96 h 0.43 for the mitomycin, whereas it ias at 48 h 6.311; and at 96h 1.36 for 5-fluorouracil. 2) Citotoxicity: IC,, (pg/ml) or dose that produced 50% RPE zitotoxicity was at 96 h 0.09 for the mitomvcin. whereas it was at 96h 0.55 for 5-fluorouracil. CONCLUSIONS: Mitomycin C at lower doses has a higher effect on RPE growth inhibition and citotoxicity than 5-fluorouracil.

A study of laser photocoagulation for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy.

PURPOSE To evaluate the efficacy of laser photocoagulation for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) involving the macula. METHODS The records of 38 patients (47 eyes) undergoing laser photocoagulation for PCV causing serosanguineous detachment involving the fovea were reviewed and the results were evaluated. Ten eyes underwent photocoagulation to induce a fusion scar covering whole lesions...

Temperature distribution during ICG-dye-enhanced laser photocoagulation of feeder vessels in treatment of AMD-related choroidal neovascularization.

Laser photocoagulation of the feeder vessels of age-related macula degeneration-related choroidal neovascularization (CNV) membranes is a compelling treatment modality, one important reason being that the treatment site is removed from the fovea in cases of sub- or juxtafoveal CNV. To enhance the energy absorption in a target feeder vessel, an indocyanine green dye bolus is injected intravenous...

Imaging Laser-Induced Choroidal Neovascularization in the Rodent Retina Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in visualizing laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in the rodent retina. METHODS Choroidal neovascularization was induced via laser photocoagulation in 2 male Brown Norway rats and 2 male C57BL/6 mice. For qualitative comparison, the animals were imaged in vivo wit...

Incremental cost effectiveness of laser photocoagulation for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization.

OBJECTIVE To perform a patient preference-based, incremental cost-effectiveness analysis for laser treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization. DESIGN Computer-based econometric modeling. METHODS The cost effectiveness of laser photocoagulation therapy was compared with the natural course of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization. The model applied long-term visual data from previou...

Photodynamic therapy versus thermal laser photocoagulation for the treatment of recurrent choroidal neovascularization due to AMD.

UNLABELLED The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of thermal laser photocoagulation (TLP) to that of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of recurrent choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). PATIENTS AND METHODS We prospectively studied 38 patients (40 eyes) with AMD presented with recurrent CNV after TLP. The study e...
